Dear Church, Stop Trying to Save the World
Dear Church, stop trying to save the World. We must tell the World Christ's gospel in order to find in it those other members of the Church that haven't yet been saved. We must do good to our enemy as a witness against them of the superiority of God's goodness without becoming their friends. We must live with Christ's Church and love the siblings in Christ.
Consider Bob Saget, star of "Full House", a show that was billed as funny and wholesome on its surface, but which indulged in lots of sex humor. Bob's career changed, and he became a filthy stand up comedian. We could have guessed when "Full House" was first being aired, but the advertised overlay of a wholesome family program obfuscated the sex jokes we were seeing, and Bob's later career change just reveals who he was at that earlier time.
Dear Church, don't be confused by the seeming goodness of the World - it absolutely, viciously hates your God and you. It really is your enemy. Do good to your enemy, but don't trust their returning smile - it's just to get more out of you. Know the truth, be set free and give your kindness in a controlled way, not being led by surface looks, but from the depths, know that you act according to you Father in Heaven and your Master Jesus and God's Holy Spirit within you, for His sake and for your sake. Love the brothers - do good to your enemy, but pour yourself into all your siblings in Christ, teaching and rebuking and shunning and reproving and exhorting and encouraging and worshiping God together with them. Give your enemy food and the knowledge of salvation doctrine, but have life together with your siblings in Christ. Walk circumspectly in the World, with gentleness and wisdom, and lay down your life for the siblings in Christ.
Let Bob go to his own place, dear Church, and, if Father God calls him, then we will rejoice, but no amount of cajoling will turn anybody from the World to God's Kingdom. That work belongs to God, even as He allows us to take the small part in it (which we don't really do very well, as far as I've seen) by telling the World Christ's gospel that Paul learned and taught (that believing 1 Corinthians 15:3b-8, all who do Romans 10:9, 10, 13 will be saved). And let the dead bury their own dead as we live together, dear Church.
