Better Police Work Makes for More Justice
The lackluster ability of the police, due largely to their rigid formalism on the side of fear and their lack of forms that would help them do their duty, works against justice and makes righteousness seem stupid in the steely sight of the wicked World. The police need to go after crooks, regardless of petulant, mocking rules which they set for themselves (or those which are set for them by petulant, mocking legislators, glad-handing chiefs and conspiring egomaniacal puppeteer judges and prosecutors). Going after crooks, the useful police officer abrogates attempted control over what top law has already regarded as beyond its purview and forgoes questioning of the suspect altogether and looks for clues instead of mealy-mouthed trickery in the silly hope of the suspect giving himself away. Plea deals are the least useful thing to the officer of justly executed law, and humility is seen as strength. Why, oh why, would such an upstanding citizen-officer pay the slightest attention to the prosecutor's edict to stop arresting the Mayor's son for drunk driving? Or why shouldn't video cameras be placed - that, after all, produces real evidence! Why won't the cop sitting in the parking lot across the street just go into the bar and watch whether or not the bartender gives more than a drink an hour to anybody in that public venue and keep tallies to mark who has had enough time to legally go outside? Though a cordial setup and whatnot, it seems like a conspiracy that the well-known behavior of those law-breakers continues night after night, no matter where in the country a bar is found. If you can't make money serving a drink an hour per "guest", then there must be too much supply for the demand, and let economic forces adjust it. Perhaps there will be more private clubs where they can sleep it off and fewer public bars where they drive or walk home. The complexion of the town is blighted due to the police officer's strange adherence to rules that bind him from practicing straightforward duty. They've become so accustomed to the round-about way that they catch themselves in their own traps, and the populace suffers for it!
Reduce the laws and increase the personal responsibility for those who hold authority, and let it be distributed throughout all authorities in the city. Bosses and teachers have less authority and less responsibility, while the bossed and the taught have more. Underneath the obscuring unlawful mandates and traditions that seem to run the whole place, it's already that way in fact. Let's stop being double-minded. Righteous truth in simplicity and straightforwardness, with similar outcomes for all, would just be plain helpful. See?.
